So it’s that time of year again. Doesn’t it always come around quickly? Unlike holidays which seem to take so long to arrive! Of course, I’m talking about Christmas. Since we’re well into October it’s time to start planning in earnest. Straightaway, at the top of my list of things to think about is what to buy everyone. It’s difficult, isn’t it? You want to buy people things they’re going to really love and then want to use. Not useless stuff that will surely be pushed into the back of a cupboard and never used. Of course, since this is a travel blog I’m quite focused on people who like to travel. So I thought I’d give you some tips on what makes the perfect Christmas present for travel lovers.
Now, of course, not all people who travel want the same things. We’re all different after all. So, always bear in mind who you’re buying for and what type of travelling they do. On the other hand, there are lots of unique and fabulous Christmas presents for travellers available. So I’ve put together a list of travel related gifts which I think will delight someone this year.
What makes the perfect Christmas present?
Of course, probably one of the most fantastic gifts for travel lovers would be an actual holiday or vacation. All booked and paid for. If you’re feeling really generous then that would make an absolutely marvellous gift. Do check that they can get the time off work though. However, I’m going to assume that you’re looking for something rather more affordable. For this reason, I’ve included a range of gift ideas for travel lovers at different budget levels. From stocking fillers and budget options to more pricey gift ideas. In fact, there’s something for everyone. Just click on the images to go through to the appropriate store in order to make your purchase.

Books for travel
If you know someone who loves to travel then they probably like to read about exotic places and get inspiration on where to go next. So travel books can make the perfect Christmas present. Also, check out my article on book gifts for someone going travelling for lots of great ideas.
Or what about something to read while they’re on their travels? Take a look at these recommendations for books to read while travelling – books always make great travel gifts.

Give A Year of Days Out
National Trust Membership
So what makes great gifts for people going travelling as couples. How about membership to the National Trust. When you purchase a gift membership you’re giving someone free access to over 500 places in the UK for a full year. That is an awful lot of great days out. You can buy single or joint membership packages. Each one gives unlimited access to National Trust sites and also free parking at many places. They’ll also receive a handbook which gives them up to date information on all the available attractions. To purchase National Trust Membership click here.
English Heritage Membership
Another great membership scheme which makes a perfect Christmas present is English Heritage. With over 400 historical attractions to choose from, membership gives a whole year of fun and exploration. Not only is it one of the best Christmas gifts for couples but also consider it as a Christmas present for parents or grandparents. What’s more, they can take up to 6 children free on every visit. That is an amazing gift to give someone! Click here to purchase English Heritage membership.
Best travel gifts for her
So now let’s consider the ladies in your life. Your mother, sisters, girlfriends, niece, aunt. Here are some fabulous gifts for anyone who likes to travel. A mix of fun ideas which are also practical. From cheap and cheerful to splash out and impress.
Fat Face Mini Toiletries
So many of us travel light these days and of course, if you fly with hand luggage only you need to be careful with liquids. This mini toiletries set from Fat Face is perfect. Each of the shampoo, face lotion and body wah are just 30ml so well within the limit for airport security. Beautifully scented with patchouli and sandalwood it will certainly be gratefully received this Christmas.
Fat Face Lip Balm Trio
Another great travel essential for me is a lip balm. My lips always get dry and cracked when travelling particularly on off-season trips. This trio of lip balms from Fat Face is beautifully packed and makes a great stocking filler or secret Santa gift. At 15g each they’re the perfect size to pop in your hand luggage when flying or travelling overland.
Yoga Mat Bag
Do you know someone who loves to keep fit and so takes their yoga mat everywhere with them? Treat them to this handy bag to keep it clean while on the road. It’s practical and also easy to carry.
Handbags
Choosing the best handbag for travelling with can be tricky. I like one that’s big enough to keep all my travel documents in but not too big or heavy to use every day while away. It also needs to be practical and sturdy. Preferably showerproof and also keep my things safe inside. So when I was thinking of travel presents for her, I immediately thought of sharing some great travel handbags.
National Trust Leather Cross Body Bag
A cross-body bag is ideal when travelling as you can hug your things close. This stylish, brown leather bag from the National Trust makes a great choice. Smart enough for day-to-day touring while in cities but practical enough for the outdoors. Additionally, it has plenty of storage space for documents, tickets, passports when travelling.
FatFace Harper Buckle Cross Body Bag
Another cross-body bag, this time from Fat Face. I love the chestnut colour and it’s just the right size for keeping all your essentials close when travelling. It’s a simple, stylish yet timeless design. The adjustable strap also makes it comfortable to carry all day long.
Keep their feet dry
Surely nobody likes wet feet. So, I love these National Trust Hunter Field Gardener Boot which comes in two different colours. The ones in the photo below are Sea Green Oak Leaf but you can buy them in Sea Shade as well. All in all, they’re tough and perfect to keep your feet warm and dry whatever the weather. You can look stylish and still be comfortable. These can take on any terrain. Perfect for any outdoor activities during your travels.
Best travel gifts for him
Everyone deserves to be treated at Christmas so, now let’s take a look at some travel gifts for the men in your life.
National Trust Adventurer Hat
An exclusive design for the National Trust, this adventurers hat is really stylish and also great quality. A bit Indiana Jones, in my opinion, and thus the perfect travel accessory for any traveller or explorer. Keep cool and look cool.
Socks in a Tent
Socks are a bit of a cliche when it comes to gifts but don’t overlook this most practical present. After all, you can never have too many pairs of socks. I really particularly liked this set as a gift. Socks in their own tent by Fat Face. These soft fluffy socks will keep your feet cosy and warm and they also make a great stocking filler.
Wallet
You can’t travel without money so this Stitch Detail Wallet from Fat Face makes the ideal Christmas gift. You can also personalise it free of charge.
Toiletries
Because everyone likes to look nice, especially at Christmas, help him look and feel his best with these great toiletry sets from M&S. Firstly, these fabulous travel shower gels are the perfect size to pop in your hand luggage. I particularly like them because they’re cruelty-free and BUAV approved as not being tested on animals.
Or if you know someone with a beard to take care of, then how about this handy little kit. Also from M&S, it has a comb, scissors and beard wax all packed in a small metal tin. So you can keep your beard in tip-top condition wherever you are.
Best travel gifts for him or her
Who doesn’t love a gadget or two to make travel more fun? If you know someone who loves the great outdoors then this is the perfect Christmas gift. It’s foldable so compact and easy to pop in a pocket wherever you’re heading. You’ll certainly be prepared for pretty much anything with the knife, screwdriver, bottle opener, saw and flint. There’s even a corkscrew because, well, needing to open a bottle of wine is an essential skill when camping! This really is a great gift for any adult who likes to get off the beaten track.
Folding Cutlery Set
Are you fed up of cheap plastic cutlery when you’re travelling? These days we’re all a lot more eco-conscious and of course, single-use plastic just isn’t good for the environment. So take a look at this fabulous folding cutlery set from The National Trust. Pop it in your pocket or bag and you’ve got an environmentally friendly alternative that’s far more sturdy and also nicer to eat with. What’s more, it’s a great stocking filler or secret Santa gift.
Thermal Mug
Likewise, I think a good quality thermal mug is a travel essential. This stainless steel one from the National Trust makes the perfect gift. Great for hot and also cold drinks you can use it all year round.
RFiD Backpack
I mentioned in one of my recent blog posts that I’ve finally embraced contactless technology. I think it’s great but it does raise some security concerns when travelling. This stylish and practical backpack from the National Trust has an RFiD-protected pocket to keep your data safe when travelling. It’s also water-resistant and with 25 litres capacity, it even has space for a 13″ laptop. Padded shoulder straps and back panel make it comfortable to carry. Perfect for long or short trips. Home or abroad. In fact, I’d love one of these.
Music Quiz
I saw this music box quiz from M&S and thought what a great little game to take when you travel. Fun for all the family and easily portable so you can pop it in your suitcase. Never a boring moment again. Test your music knowledge with five different music-themed games.

Atlas or Globe
You’re never too young to get a thirst for travel. Inspire your kids to travel by showing them more about the world. A traditional world atlas is a great gift for youngsters.
Or how about this fabulous interactive globe from Vtech. Not only does it show them different aspects of the world they live in but it will teach them basic words in different languages. What a fun travel gift.

Travel is fun but it’s also educational. Encourage your children to record their travel experiences by buying them a travel diary or journal.
