Great Banff Accommodations
Of course, a visit to Banff National Park was a must-do on our road trip around the Canadian Rockies so I began looking for accommodation. Actually, there is so much choice in this area that it is almost overwhelming. I settled on the Lodges at Canmore and I was happy with that choice. I’ll tell you why.
Firstly, you really need to decide whether you want to stay in Banff itself or just outside the park in Canmore. Both have their advantages but I decided on Canmore because we could get much better value for money. Also since we had the car I wanted somewhere with reliable parking and preferably free parking. Not somewhere that we’d struggle to get a space when we returned tired in the evening.
Why we chose Lodges at Canmore
Canmore is just outside Banff National Park but honestly, it is right on the boundary and even if you stay in Banff you will need to drive or take public transport to the various attractions. The NP is huge and you won’t be staying exclusively in Banff. At the Lodges at Canmore, we booked a large 1 bedroom apartment with a full kitchen for just under £150 a night. That’s more than we usually like to spend per night but it’s great value in this area.
For this, we got a fabulous apartment with a full kitchen, a huge lounge area, nice bedroom, spacious and very clean bathroom and a balcony with bbq. We also got a full-sized washer and dryer so I was able to catch up on all our laundry. The large sofa was great to chill out after a long day exploring the National Park and it also had a gas fireplace for those chilly winter days. In fact, in September it was really warm in Banff so we only used the fan.
Since we are vegetarians, we don’t tend to bbq. I know you can grill veggies etc but it’s really not the same. However, if you do like a bbq I think it’s great to have such easy access. It’s also a very pleasant view while you’re cooking. I checked and it was very clean.
When we booked I wasn’t too interested in the balcony as I thought it would be too cold to sit out. As it turns out I spent quite a lot of time standing out there watching the world go by and admiring the view. It’s always nice to have some outdoor space.
Lodges at Canmore Resort Facilities
Just outside the reception is a large heated pool which all guests can enjoy and there is also a hot tub. We noticed a few smaller pools on the resort map also but we didn’t visit those. The pool was never crowded but people were using it. I dipped a toe in and it was nice and warm. There is also a fitness centre on-site if you don’t feel you’ve got enough exercise exploring the sites.
As I have already mentioned you get free parking. Reception gave us a keycard to access the underground parking garage which was huge. Plenty of space to choose from and they even provide large luggage trolleys to help move your things up in the elevator.
We enjoyed our stay in the apartment of Lodges at Canmore. If you’re a bigger group then they have larger apartments available as well. It’s a great base for visiting the National Park since it is just off the main highway. Canmore town centre has plenty of facilities including a supermarket, shops, restaurants, cafes and takeaways.
